New School Building after Haiyan

Typhoon Haiyan completely destroyed Mahayag Elementary School in Leyte, leaving two buildings shattered in pieces and one building entirely wiped out... To view photos of the damage caused in Mahayag, please go to our Facebook photo album 'Part IV' or watch the EénVandaag documentary on our Youtube:

Mahayag is one of the remote mountain villages SLF assisted after typhoon Haiyan. In our previous visits to this town we distributed hygiene kits, medicines, coloring books, multivitamin packs & blankets. Read more about it here.

Thanks to all the wonderful donations SLF has received, we were able to start rebuilding Mahayag's elementary school, in collaboration with RDIL, in order for the town children to return to their classroom again. This FB photo album shows the progress made in the construction of the school building, from beginning till end. Here is a small selection:

Above photo shows the progress in beginning October, 2014. The photo below was taken during the Official Groundbeaking Ceremony that took place in February, 2014. In our photo album 'Part VIII' you can find all photos of the Official Groundbreaking Ceremony, which was attended by Dutch student volunteers as well.

Below is the proposed plan of the two-room school building, followed by the end result. A separate toilet facility was donated as well.

The Sheryl Lynn Foundation thanks all her donors, sponsors & partners in this reconstruction project, which was facilitated by RDI-Leyte in coordination with City and Barangay LGU, Mahayag United Farmers Association, DepEd, City Engineering Office, City Planning Office and DPWH. Labor support was provided through Cash For Work, counter-parted by Christian Aid. We are extremely grateful for all their help!
